Better scenes and short form games 

Take your improv skills to the next level! In this 12-week course, you’ll expand yourimprovisation toolbox with a variety of scene-based and short-form games thatgo deeper into storytelling, character work, and emotional truth. This courseis designed for improvisers who already have stage experience and are ready toexplore more nuanced and theatrical aspects of improv.

Over the course, you’ll learn how to perform a show of improvised games and scenes usinga mix of formats, including open scenes without clear structure. You'll developstronger acting skills to make your scenes more grounded, believable, andengaging for an audience. 

• Playing short-form games with more depth, intention, and character
• Creating believable, emotionally truthful characters 
• Greater depth of relationships
• Understanding story structure to support longer and more layered scenes
• Performing open scenes with no fixed structure
• Working with the audience: asking for suggestions, presenting your game or format clearly

For whom:This course is for intermediate players – ideally you’ve completed at least two improv courses and have performed in at least one show. You’re comfortable on stage and ready to challenge yourself with deeper scene work. Advanced players are welcome too!

Course details:

Course starts Tuesday 20 Jan- 14 April 2026 19:30-21:30 Location  Buurtcentrum De Jager, Teun de Jagerlaan 1 Utrecht (free parking). After drinks at Hygge or O'Leary's.1 3 lessons including 1 show.  Show date t.b.d. We'll try to organise more performance opportunities for this group. 

Musical lesson probably 10th of February. Holiday 17th of February.

Trainer Rutger Pull

The trainer Rutger Pull is specialised in short form games, in Dutch Theatresport. His expertise is to have a clear view on what a scene needs, ans he will teach you this skill as well. Rutger has a friendly and intelligent way of giving positive feedback, to get the best out of each player.Rutger used to play in Enschede at Pro Deo, and now already for years at Iets Anders in Utrecht.
